I’ve seen that sign where a farmer is leaning over a little calf and the caption reads:
God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn calf, and watch it die, then dry his eyes and say “maybe next year.” So God Made a Farmer
When I first read that, I thought “yep – I’ve been there, I understand”…and then.
I have spent several nights lately sitting up with baby puppies, watching them fade away one by one. Now the pain is real and the weight is heavy and it isn’t a cute saying. There’s more there than the little baby animal that I watched die. It’s my budget for the coming year, it’s the hope I had. I became discouraged and realized that my courage had died too.
But then, God sent to my aide some of his other children who are willing to do what he made them for: Isaiah 35:3 “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way…” and I slept….all night long….and when I woke up I realized my courage had returned and I smiled.
